You are cordially invited to the 2018 City of East Chicago Fair Housing Month Celebration commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act of 1968.  On April 11, 1968, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which was meant as a follow-up to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The 1968 act expanded on previous acts and prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, sex, (and as amended) handicap and family status. Title VIII of the Act is also known as the Fair Housing Act (of 1968).

The event will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 10:00am – 11:30am CST at the East Chicago Public Library, 2401 E. Columbus Drive, East Chicago, Indiana.  Guest presenters from local and state levels are anticipated to participate in this event.  The Templeton Gallery, located at the East Chicago Public Library, will be featuring artwork from the students at Joseph L. Block Middle School.  The display will be up for the month of April.

For more information regarding this event, please contact the offices of the City of East Chicago Department of Redevelopment at 219-391-8513 ext. 286.
